San Gabán Hydropower Station Tunnel Project, Peru

Project Name: San Gabán Hydropower Station Tunnel Project, Peru

Cooperation Partner: Sinohydro Bureau 14 Co., Ltd.

Project Description: The San Gabán III Hydropower Station is located in the San Gabán River basin in the Puno region of southern Peru, in a tropical rainforest area. It is one of the capacity cooperation projects between China and Peru and is the first power project invested by Chinese enterprises in Peru. The tunnel is 9.17 kilometers long with a diameter of 5.8 meters, traversing fault zones, water inflow sections, and weak interlayer areas. The tunnel has developed underground fissures, with a daily inflow of approximately 47,500 cubic meters and a maximum inflow of 71,700 cubic meters. Upon completion, the project will address the electricity shortage in southern Peru.

Cutterhead Configuration:

17-inch double disc center cutters

19-inch single disc cutters

Buckets

Cooperation Method: The cooperation is based on a TBM cutter contract, responsible for all cutter services in the tunneling section.

Results: A detailed analysis of geological surrounding rock data was conducted in the early stage to reasonably configure cutter parameters. Litian's service personnel were arranged to enter the site in advance, assisting the project team in preparation for tunneling. The project team completed the tunneling task two months ahead of schedule, achieving an average monthly progress of 573 meters, with a maximum daily progress of 50 meters and a maximum monthly progress of 1,007.9 meters.
